There is an invisible thread that connects many of our small daily gestures.<\/b> Drink a glass of fresh fruit juice to replenish energy. Spray the wrists with our favorite essence to face the day with confidence. Give yourself a respite from negative thoughts through an aromatherapy session. Three seemingly distant actions turn out instead to be deeply connected by <\/span>one approach: “circular economy.” <\/b>Two magic words that are finally <\/span>revolutionizing<\/span> the agrifood supply chain, prompting each company to employ <\/span>advanced techniques and technologies<\/b>, organized by cycles, <\/span>that recycle production waste to generate green energy and give rise to new products, actively contributing to the well-being of the environment with a view to sustainability.<\/b><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Waste is a valuable resource from which unexpected by-products can be created. And so it is that, starting <\/span>from the perfect sphere of an orange, juices, nectars, quality juices and much more are produced.<\/b> Peels and processing residues can be used for other applications and can also be recycled. <\/span>Valuable essential oils can be extracted from the peels <\/b>highly valued and sought after by perfume and cosmetic companies. <\/span>Pulp processing residues<\/b>, on the other hand, may be <\/span>Used as livestock feed ingredients. <\/b><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

And if what has been said so far is not enough to surprise you, hold on to your hats: because <\/span>in recent years, the circular economy of oranges has seen the emergence of highly innovative projects<\/b>, among which are numerous <\/span>Italian excellences<\/span>. The most famous example is<\/span> Orange Fiber<\/b>, a Catania-based SME <\/span>Producing sustainable textiles from citrus “pulp”<\/b>, a by-product of the juicing industry that should be discarded as production waste. Carlo Ratti Associati Design Studio (CRA), in 2019, in collaboration with Eni, launched the<\/span> Feel the Peel<\/b>, experimental circular juice bar<\/b> that accumulates peels<\/b> waste from juices and dries them <\/span>in order to create a bioplastic<\/b>, from which compostable cups are 3D printed.<\/span><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Another Italian excellence is <\/span>
\n Gioia Succhi<\/b>
\n<\/a>, a Calabrian company<\/span> partner of <\/b>
\n Italian Agricultural Chain<\/b>
\n<\/a>. Gioia Succhi processes oranges, harvested within 30 km, with a view to <\/span>short supply chain<\/b>, to produce <\/span>juices and juices<\/b> including organic, <\/span>preparations and essential oils, terpenes, aromatic waters and polyphenol extracts.<\/b> The peels also become useful mush for the production of <\/span>biomass<\/b>. A perfect example of circular economy!<\/span><\/p>\n

La <\/span>Favini paper mill<\/b>, on the other hand, with orange peels reduced to flour<\/span> produces crush paper<\/b>. E <\/span>Bioclin<\/b>, a cosmetics company, in collaboration with Slow Food Foundation, <\/span>has created a shower gel using water extracted from processing.<\/b><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In conclusion, an orange has many lives<\/b>, or rather as many as we can still find applications for her. And let’s not forget that reuse alone is not enough for sustainability: <\/span>in the circular economy, the approach of manufacturers, distributors and retailers is key to reducing resource waste. <\/b><\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
